Personality

She was once perceived as kind for a warlock yet the events of the past half-year have led her to further corruption. Mere curiosity has grown in to an insatiable lust for knowledge and the power it brings. Her actions are now more ruthless, less considerate of the effect they may have on others. Power that once was used only in defense is now turned on anyone in her way; though Scarlet Crusaders and Paladins are still the main targets of her scorn. Allegiances and promises are made to satisfy her own needs regardless of who she may be dealing with – Alliance, Horde or other. She rarely bothers to do things out of kindness anymore. Having given up on ever finding solace herself, she no longer sees any reason to offer it to others. If she ever appears to be doing something charitable, you can be sure there is something else in it for her. Still, a part of the woman she once was remains buried inside. It shows itself occasionally in an of-hand comment, a half-hidden smile or the expression on her face as she reads.

Quirks

  • When not casting curses or stealing souls, she can be found reading or fishing.
  • Annie has an irrational fear of mechanical chickens.
  • If anyone spends some time with her, they will realize that she is extremely klutzy, often tripping/falling over and occasionally mispronouncing spells when flustered.
  • She owns the Bay Side Antiquarian Co., a small bookshop in Booty Bay. It currently contains one bookcase and three old history tomes.

History

Final Farewell - Events before her arrival in Stormwind City.

Anni tilted her head from side to side trying to dispel the ringing in one ear. She had been careless again. Instead of making preparations to travel with the approaching daylight she had sat there reading the Scourge grimoire. It now lay closed just an arms length away. She had been so engrossed in the text that she missed the Forsaken woman’s entrance.

A whiff of the grave and a sharp claw seen out of the corner of the eye was all the warning she had before the solid hit to the side of her head. Even with Dannuta’s human features marred by the grave, Anni could clearly read the disappointment on the Forsaken woman’s face. She steadied herself for yet another tirade against the Dark Arts. The woman just shook her head instead and without a word motioned for Anni to turn around. This silence was worse than any anger.

Anni waited for Dannuta to say something, anything, but the priestess remained silent as she worked on Anni’s back. Each stitch pulled out of the gash on her shoulder seemed to emphasize the silence more. Most of the criss-cross wounds from the whipping had healed with only the aid of salves and potions. Yet the deeper gash on her shoulder remained as a reminder of another time she had been careless.

Anni closed her eyes in thought. She had been out gathering herbs when the patrol of soldiers found her. Scarlet Crusaders, they were the ones that came to retake and purify the lands. Off course upon seeing a woman in the forest the first assumption was Scourge or a traitor. They made sure to ask many questions with each stroke of the whip. Pain and sorrow, more than she could handle had flowed through her that night. In desperation she had dropped all the carefully wrought barriers she was trained to maintain since childhood. Dark fire, twisting and vengeful pulsed through her her as she opened herself to the energies that flowed through the land. When the screams of those around her had died, the fel fires faded but their taint within her remained. That’s where Dannuta had finally found her, huddled in the rain among Scarlet corpses in a burned out watch tower.

It was less than a year before that when her life in Tirisfal Glades had been so peaceful. She lived with her mother, a step-father and a half-sister in the small forester’s hut. Though she never really worked with the powers of the Light, she had studied all the other forms of healing from her mother. Reading, writing and even some Arcane arts, she learned from an old mage. Working in the village’s Inn, she learned how to cook almost anything into an edible dish. The village was so small it was not even listed on any maps but that had not stopped the wars and plague from coming.

Anni and her mother both ended up serving as healers far north. Though Anni herself survived, most of the people she knew her whole life died that year. Some returned while others remained dead. In time the effect of the grave became clear. New futures were sought out as people left following the whispers of their new Queen. Voices changed and their speech became close to indecipherable as the Common tongue, twisted by grave-destroyed voices in decomposing bodies, became a foreign language. Even Anni had difficulty deciphering Dannuta’s speech, but she still knew her mother’s voice enough to grasp the words being spoken.

“What do you think you are doing, child?” Dannuta finally asked breaking into Anni’s reflections.

Anni glanced over her shoulder as Dannuta continued in her dry, rasping voice.

“You must leave. The strife grows each day. The Forsaken are as hate full as those that hunt them. It is less and less safe each day. I thought you realized that by now.”

Anni closed her eyes as her vision blurred with tears. She slowly rolled her shoulder, testing the stiffness of the now stitch-free scar.

“With dawn, mother. I will travel to Stormwind and leave this place to the dead.”

Footnote

* The mother was at one point an Undead Priest and killed IC in Brill by a human rogue. The character has been once again resurrected as a Death Knight.

** Anni was originally RPed as having an unnaturally keen sense for magical energies and need/curiosity for knowledge. She's still a half-elf, but she would never announce it to everyone she meets and she looks completely human thanks to a small enchant used on her as an infant.

*** Unfortunately I lost the name at one point in time so the Ruthger that is in game is no longer one of my characters or in any way related to Anni.
